Licensing Models
There are three types of licensing models that Eagle Point offers.
  • Node
  • Single Server Network
  • Redundant Server Network

The Node license is a local or single-seat license. This option is commonly used in organizations with a small employee/user base, or organizations that do not have a network. In this type of model, Eagle Point products are licensed to a specific machine and can only be accessed on that machine. You will need to purchase a license for every product that you intend to use on the machine at some point. Purchasing products using node licenses ensures the product availability for the user whose machine it is on. Conversely, when that product is not being used on that machine, no one else in the office can access that product.

A Single Server Network license is used by companies who wish to run their Eagle Point software in a network environment and have a central license pool on a network to monitor the product usage by individual users. The Network License Manager is used as the license server to grant permissions to access any module from your license pool. This option allows you to purchase only the licenses for the products you need rather than purchasing full seats of software for users that might only use a few products or commands. The monitoring software (License Manager or License Server) grants licenses for a product until all licenses that have been purchased are used. At that point, if a user tries to run a command from that product, they are prompted that no licenses are available and they have to try again later.

A Redundant Server Network License is similar to the Single Server Network except additional servers are used to help manage license files and provide backup during server downtime. By having multiple servers connected via LAN or WAN, you also get the ability to pool licenses from multiple offices. If one office’s workload increases, you can borrow unused licenses from your less busy offices. In a Redundant Server Network, the Network License Manger is installed on multiple servers. A majority of these servers must be running at all times. When one server goes down, the remaining Network License Managers that can be communicated with are used to grant permissions to the products.

Why Switch from Node to Network Licenses?
There are several reasons why you should switch from an Eagle Point Node License model to a Network License model. The Eagle Point License Manager is aimed at reducing your costs as well as making technology administrators' jobs easier by ensuring license usage compliance and providing flexibility in offering licenses to off-line users. Highlights of this release include:
Cost Savings Example
Suppose your company has 3 surveyors and 3 engineers doing road/site development. Even though they won’t all use the products at the same time, if you choose a Node License model, you will need the following breakdown of Eagle Point modules:
Module Surveyors Engineers Total
Data Collection 3 0 3
Surface Modeling 3 3 6
Site Design 0 3 3
RoadCalc 0 3 3

The cost for Node License of these models is as follows:

Module Number Cost Total Cost
Data Collection 3 $325* $975
Surface Modeling 6 $625* $3750
Site Design 3 $625* $1875
RoadCalc 3 $1125* $3375
Total     $9975
*Pricing is shown as an example and will not be honored on software orders. Pricing subject to change without notice.

Since the Network License Model allows you to pool licenses and make them available to everyone, you could reduce the number of modules:

Module Surveyors Engineers Total
Data Collection 2 0 2
Surface Modeling 1 2 3
Site Design 0 2 2
RoadCalc 0 2 2

The cost for Network License of these models is as follows:

Module Number Cost Total Cost
Concurrent Users 6 $275* $1650
Data Collection 2 $325* $650
Surface Modeling 3 $625* $1875
Site Design 2 $625* $1250
RoadCalc 2 $1125* $2250
Total     $7675
*Pricing is shown as an example and will not be honored on software orders. Pricing subject to change without notice.

The cost savings for using a Network License model and a central pool for licenses instead of Node Licenses: $2300 or over 20%.

The cost for a 1-year VIP contract (support and maintenance releases) would also be less for the Network License model since you have fewer modules:

License Model Number of Modules Cost Total Cost
Node 15 $150* $2250
Network 9 $150* $1350
*Pricing is shown as an example and will not be honored on contract orders. Pricing subject to change without notice.

The cost savings for a 1-year VIP contract: $900 or 40%.
